Big Boy Underwear!

Today we made our first venture into big boy underwear.

As soon as I brought them home, he wanted to put on a pair, AND put his shorts on! I was just waiting for the him to pee through his shorts, which he did about an hour later. LOL

Recently we've started potty training, because Kwabena has shown more interest in sitting on his potty. I've started placing him there in the evenings prior to his bath, and he will sit and sit and sit and sit, for as long as I offer him a book to read. We've started introducing it to him in the morning, too, after waking up.

This morning he peed on the potty twice!

I don't think he was even aware of the significance; it was probably more coincidence that he peed since he was sitting there, but I made sure to make a big deal of it afterwards, so he happily squealed, "I peed!"

I truly think it will take some time for this process, but I think it's important to start it now that he is showing an interest in the potty, and is aware of when he pees and poos. I know of kids that are well into age 3 and are still not potty trained. I think by that age it's probably more about lazy parents than kids that aren't ready. Just my opinion.

Anyhow, today me and Kwabena had a great day!

First, as you can see in our previous post, we spent the day playing with my new computer, taking funny pictures of ourselves in Photo Booth. Then we spent the next hour video chatting with Kwasi's brother, Osei, in Atlanta (WOW, technology....). We also built a huge castle with blocks, where he housed his choo-choo trains. :) (My little engineer...)

I tried to put Kwabi down for a nap at 1 p.m., and that little bugger laid there playing with my eye lids for a good hour while I pretended to be sleeping (hmm, or was I really napping? LOL) At one point I left the room to check the time, and instructed him to stay in his bed. (At daycare, he'd been having problems staying in his bed at naptime, so this is a big thing with us lately--teaching him to stay in his bed at naptime).

Five minutes later I peeked into his room. He was standing in the middle of the room, and when he saw me, he quickly darted back to his bed to lie down. Awwwwww....... It was too cute! He knew he shouldn't be out of bed. :)

I ended up letting him up, because for me to let him continue laying/playing there until he fell asleep, it would have been well past 5 p.m. before we even left to run errands!

So we got up, dressed, and drove to Rockville, where we found a cool toystore, a children's clothing store with great sales, and stopped by the grocery store. We picked up veggie food, and we sat in the parking lot with the A/C running, devouring the avocado salad and french fries. YUMMY!

Afterwards, we stopped at his Grandma's house, and later, headed home.
